How to Include Your Dog in Your Wedding Day

Dogs at Weddings?

We’ve been lucky enough to meet loads of awesome dogs at weddings. We’re sharing some tips on how you can include your dog in your big day.

Can we have our dog(s) at our wedding?

Yes.

There are loads of things you can do to include your dog in your wedding, either in person or via long distance.

Over the years we’ve seen doggy ring bearers, dogs walking people down the aisle, dogs included in the family group shots and even wearing little suits and bow ties.

Check with your venue.

If having your furry best mate attend is a deal breaker, check with your venue first and look for dog-friendly places to tie the knot. Then get it in writing just to make sure.

Consider a dog sitter for the day.

Dog sitters are great. They look after your dog in the morning, bring them when needed, are responsible for walkies and such all day, and then take them away when it’s time for bed. This means you don’t have to rely on friends or family to pick up poo in their best outfits. It also means there’s less chance of them getting trampled on the dancefloor and having their fill of the buffet!

Check out Bow Wow Vow and Pawfect Occasions who we’ve worked with in the past. They’re awesome.

Give them a role in the wedding!

Ring bearer, flower girl, usher – whatever you want. They can be anything you dream of, except the father of the bride, that’d be weird.

We know that dogs are often the most important family members (just ask Merlin) so you definitely want them captured in the photographs.

Get them a special outfit.

Bow ties, bandanas, flower crowns, hats, and fancy dress. Top tip, test any outfit out and make sure they are happy and comfortable before the day.

Consider how your dog will cope.

Some dogs will revel in a busy party full of people with sausage rolls and loud noise. Some will definitely not. Really think about how they might react on the day and consider having them there for just a short time and have a good escape plan or chill-out zone just in case.

If they can’t be there.

If you’re having a table with other photographs or guest books, this can be the perfect place to add a photo of your dog or other pets that can’t be there.

One last thing to remember.

Don’t forget the gravy bones. 😉
