River Cottage Wedding Photography – Rachael + Steven

A River Cottage wedding, how could we possibly say no?

Rachael + Steven were married at the incredible River Cottage in Devon. Yep, that River Cottage, the one Emma has spent at least several hours watching on the TV.

Their outdoor ceremony was beautiful and conducted by one of Rachael + Steven’s best friends. We love those types of ceremonies, they make the day so much more special.

During the afternoon there was time for drinks, snacks, and speeches, then it was inside for dinner. The meal was introduced by the chef who talked through what everyone would be eating that day.

As you can imagine food is a big part of the day at a River Cottage wedding. The chef goes out into the kitchen garden and farm first thing and sees what is good to cook that day. You have no idea what you’ll be eating which is absolutely brilliant and terrifying. Obviously, they take into account dietary requirements but everyone gets food that is as fresh as possible. Everyone enjoyed courgette prepared several ways for starters, all sorts of pork and veggies for mains and wedding cake with ice cream for dessert. There were also canapés and petit fours with late-night snacks for those who needed dancing fuel. All washed down with River Cottages’ own beer.

Usually, the kitchen is open for all the guests to come in and watch the chefs prepare the meal. This was not long after the height of the pandemic so that wasn’t available. Although the chef spotted an Emma shooting through the doorway and invited her in to shoot the whole of service. Actual dreams came true that day*.

After dinner, it was time for outdoor games and some nice chill time before the party. It’s so quiet down in the valley where the farm is, you can really feel disconnected from the rest of the world.

Then it was time for the first dance and surprise Elton John. 🚀👨🎤🎵 Steven had let us know in advance that he was surprising Rachael with an Elton John tribute act to play a set after the first dance. We made sure we took them for some distractionary portraits while they loaded the piano into the venue.

Then it was all about dancing into the night. We had the BEST time at Rachael and Steve’s wedding at River Cottage, the food, the fun, and the dancing, we didn’t want it to end!
