Street Photography in Hull – Fujifilm X-Pro2

Anyone who lives in Scarborough knows we don’t have a decent cinema, although there are plans to build two multiplexes, so it might not be for much longer. We always go to Hull when we want to see a new film as the Vue at the top of the Princess Quay is always lovely and quiet. We went to see Guardians of the Galaxy 2 at the end of May and decided to take in some art while we were there.

We went to the Ferens Art Gallery to get us inspired. We’ve figured out that whatever we put in our brains goes in there and comes out in out photography. So less Jeremy Kyle and more art. Or just more art, you can’t take Jezza off me that easily. I was excited to see there were some of Ron Mueck on display, I did sculpture for my A level Art and still geek out about it when I see something exciting and different. Then I made the best discovery of the month, possibly year, they had some real life Martin Parr photographs in one of the exhibition. Not just that, they were taken in Scarborough last summer. I only discovered his work late last year and already think it’s one of my biggest influences, if not my biggest (check out this post to see what I mean).

After our art fun we spent an hour wandering round the city centre, seeing what we could see. This was fun, we need to keep at it and do it again soon. I like Hull, I lived here for a year at Uni and still have a favourite place to get chips – they put mushrooms in the gravy – it’s awesome. We didn’t manage to get this time, but if you need lunch get to Dope Burger as it’s bloody gorgeous and not too expensive.

So this is Hull in our eyes, Rich shot mostly black and white and I shot colour. I was trying to get to grips with the Fujifilm X-Pro2 as I’m still shooting Canon at the moment. While Rich has switched to the Fuji. I think most if not all of my stuff was on full auto using only the exposure compensation wheel.  All shot on the Fujifilm X Series X-Pro2.
