New York 1989

When I was about 6 or 7 my folks won a competition from the newspaper. It was a trip of a lifetime kinda thing, a week on the QE2 to New York, 3 nights in the city and fly home on Concorde. I remember being a little miffed it was only for two people, but then I got to stay with my mamma for a week and watch crappy TV and play a lot of Amstrad.

My folks had a great time and I remember pouring over the photographs as soon as they were developed. I got loads of presents, a real life Baby Ruth bar and a deep desire to visit this city. Which has never left. Recently my folks entrusted me with all the old family photographs and I discovered there were loads more of this trip than I remembered. Mum then said that she’d walk round with a camera just taking photos as they walked down the street. As a child I had enjoyed seeing my mum and dad in front of the sights, as a grown up (well almost) and photographer I was in awe at the history that had been captured over these 3 days in 1989. I think these were taken on an old Olympus 35mm point and shoot of some sort and then the prints were scanned in by me.

Here are my favourites, let me know what you think in the comments.
